Papa_Smurf's Build Thread
« on: November 22, 2010, 08:47:33 pm »
Well, i decided it's time to finally make a build thread. I'm building a pretty simple B20 nonvtec to put in my EF. The is the first engine build I've ever done, so this is all a fun learning experienc e for me.

What I've got so far:

B20Z2 block
Cable LS tranny (boooooo)
Stock clutch and flywheel (booo and boooo)
Hasport engine mounts
LS head with crower dual valve springs and titanium retainers
High compressi on pistons (10:98 compressi on with nonvtec head)
AEM CAI
Walbro 255 fuel pump

Plans:
Crower 403 cams
Header with 2.5 inch collector(still searching for a header that has good performan ce, with good ground clearance and works w/ a stock cross member)
2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back
Aftermark et intake manifold (Skunk2 or Blox)
65mm throttle body
pr8 head with head work
b16 or gsr hydro or cable tranny
lightened flywheel
stage 1 clutch

It's this....

Going in this...

I just dropped the rods off at the machine shop to get the new pistons installed . The crank is out and I will be ball honing the block.

Thanks Rich.

It will likely be a slow build, as I am in college and dont make shit for money, and I'm hardly home to work on the motor as it is.

Pulled the crank out and realized I need main bearings. So thats another $75-$100 that I've got to spend before I can finish the bottom end.

preciate it. From the builds i've read where people have done a similar build, they either love the raw, instant power that you have, or they dont like it and switch to ls/vtec. so we'll see what happens. My dad just built a b20vtec in his hatch and it's a monster. I really just want to build something else.

GSR tranny would really make it fun. thats what i am searching for!

lol. my pops has been building motors since he was a kid. he used to build engines for cars the raced endurance races, like 24hr of daytona and stuff. He's 62 now and just built a b20vtec, lol. He has a fully built and blueprint v6 in a 77' oldsmobil e starfire, but he quickly forgot about that car when he got an EF.

Umm... next on the to do list is hone the block when I am home for christmas break, and hopefully assemble the bottom end completel y. I all ready have a Honda bottom end kit to throw in it.

After that I will focus on getting a header and exhaust done. I am debating putting the motor in the car after that, since I have everythin g to get it running, but I might wait untill i have the cams and everythin g.

I'm just getting anxious. I got no money back want the engine to be done, haha.

there you go man. if she'll sit there while you work, more power to ya.

On a side note, the machine shop said the main bearings are good. So i just gotta get the rods and pistons back, hone the block, then assemble the bottom end.
