Civic SI's build thread
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:07:53 am »
Ok, I think it might be time for me to make a build thread. I am working on painting under the hood and shaving some of the things off the firewall. I am not going crazy with shaving or tucking since I want my car more functiona l than for looks. I also cut off my really bent up radiotor support and I am installin g a new another one that Bigdare and I cut off a car in a kinda local junk yard.

I am hoping to get under the hood done by the end of the month, but we will see. Since this car is being swapped to a B series at the same time, I am mocking up the front crossmemb er, and where I need to smack in the frame rail so the alternato r will fit. I bolted a trans and head to my block to test fit the header and the alternato r. I also had to make sure that my cold air intake will fit the motor and through the wheel well.

I started taking pics of the valve cover that I just got from Bigdare, and figured I would take a couple more. I will take more of the rest of the car later, here are a few for now.

Here is a pic of the hotbox after I moved into my new house.

Just after I installed the new exhaust.

Before I pulled the old a6.

Just after I pulled the old motor, trans, and front end parts.

A random pic that I liked of my cams.

A couple of pics to cut front crossmemb er and alternato r.

I will post up more later as I make progress with the engine bay.

That's the plan, I will be a little late getting home this afternoon . Most of my co-workers are going to get together after work today, since it's their last day :(

I will get some tonight. So far I just cut the crossmemb er, I have some steel that I will weld back in to make it stronger. I need some Argon and Co2 before I can weld up the crossmemb er and the radiator support.

Here are a few shots of what I cut off the crossmemb er so far. I still need to cut a little farther over on the passenger side and then on the bottom to allow the motor to twist a little. I might buy some round steel and weld in there to strengthe n the crossmemb er. I also have some sheet metal to close it back up, so it should be pretty strong.

Why exactly are you cutting the cross member?

I really need a traction bar, but my money is going to finish my motor first. The SMSP header will not fit with a stock crossmemb er so it has to get cut.

I should have the finished pics of the crossmemb er tonight. My welding skills need a little help but its only temporary .
