I need more go. help
« on: July 02, 2011, 02:14:48 pm »
I have an 88 EF sedan and I am looking for cheap ways to make it quicker. the whole idea of the car is to see how fast I can go for under $500 and I have already met my spending limit.

Current set up

Engine:
obd1 D16z6
Ram air headlight intake
Ebay header
2.5" exhaust no cat
thermal intake gasket
60mm T.B. with matching I.M. inlet
No A/C or P/S parts

Trans:
Cable SI trans
8.5 lb flywheel
Short throw shifter
Old slipping clutch

Chassis:
no carpet
no rear speakers
no sound deadening
no rear seats
lawn mower battery in rear
HX wheels
Un-tuned VAFC (waiting for the cash to get a wideband)
P28 ecu

I am sure that I have forgotten some things.

The class I'm running doesnt allow me to take out my passenger s seat, so that has to stay.

I'd like to keep my radio and front speakers, as I do drive it sometimes on the road.

So what else can I do to pick up a little better times? i'd like to stay away from cutting bumper supports and things like that, but i'm not 100% opposed to a little diet.

On another note, If anyone has a clutch thats worth a damn they would like to donate, I will come get it.

ZC pistons. Just ask Jermaine, he knows about them.

And theres NOTHING wrong with a VAFC. I think chipped P28s are overrated and over priced. Ive know a DSM that made 680hp on race gas tuned with SAFC. Our piddly little bolt on D/B-series dont need a chipped P28. Maybe if youre running boost or something big but bolts on make it a waste of money.

i wouldnt go as far as saying that a chipped ecu is over rated compared to a vafc. you get more options with a chipped ecu over the vafc. all you really can do with the vafc is play around with the map and change vtec cross over. chipped ecus you can do that and a lot more like set rev limits higher (if your motor can handle it) and if you motor is making power past stock rev limit, you can set lauch controll (aka 2 step) and more with a chipped ecu. as far a the price he already has the ecu chip kit costs about 25 dollers and you can get chips for like 10 bucks. the chip kit is easy to install. ive owned a vafc2 in the past and got rid of it. now i will say this they are great if you are still obd0 due to the lack of chipping ability of obd0 but he is obd1 and that makes a big differanc e. this is all my opinion nothing more nothng less.

I'm thinking about chipping the ECU because its throwing a code for an o2 heater and there is nothing wrong with the o2, or wiring. I would also like to be able to rev higher then 7200 without it falling off.

the issue I see is without a bunch more money for an ostrich or burner, I cant adjust the fuel maps when I want. thats where the VAFC comes in.

I think you need a computer to do that dont you? I'd much rather have the VAFC than tote my laptop with me.
