88 front knuckles and rear trailing arms > * ?

Another side note: 88 front knuckles and rear trailing arms are different than all other civic/integra knuckles/trailing arms. The 88 civic's have the most ideal road racing suspensio n in regards to toe curves. Both front and rear were designed to have minimal bump steer which was changed in 89 because Honda felt it was "too unsafe" which to us translate s into too good for the public.

Anybody got some laying around to compare?

Ok Kenny and I had a lengthy Text session today.

What I found out is he is looking for rear trailing arms.

What I found out is this.

88 std, 88 dx and 89 si all share the same Left trailing arm
88 std and 88 dx share the same right trailing arm
89 si is different

I don't have anything anymore but I back when I tested them I found that the tie rod mount was 2mm lower than 89+.  When I graphed it the toe curve throughou t the travel was so minimal it's not worth mentionin g.

Here's the only differenc e I know of between the 88s and 89+ rear geometrie s (besides the LCAs).

heres your proof!

picture of a 89 CRX

you can make out that the 88 has the bottom end of the stamped metal toe piece welded nearly flush with the bottom pan of the chassis.  on the 89 however, its obviously raised about an inch higher.

this ALONE is the differenc e in the toe change found in 88 cars, and not 89-91.

the story goes that honda of america was involved in the late 80's/early 90's ESCORT/FIREHAWK road racing series, which is what world challenge has become now.  honda fielded some CRX's in that race.  the cars were supposed to run near stock height.  the problem was that when the car brakes really hard, the back wheels toed out too much, making it hard to control for the drivers.  so they gave honda of japan the feedback and they changed it by the next year.  as you can see, the change was very simple but effective .

lets put an END to first of all the myth that 88's had passive rear steering and 89+ didnt.  secondly, the stamped box end arms that the 88's had (and shared in design with Type R's) has NOTHING to do with the extra toe curve exhibited by the 88's.

the change is in the chassis.

btw, any differenc e in the toe curve is all neglible when you lower the car on either model.
