My '90 Civic STD Rebuild
« on: June 30, 2013, 03:23:06 pm »
Good morning all,

Here is my 'new' Civic, and first Honda I've ever owned. It's not going to replace my other car in the picture, but rather I'm going to be using it as my daily driver. My ultimate goal is to completel y restore it to factory specs and have it looking new again. The only exception will be wheels, intake perhaps, a side mirror on the right side of the car, and Si bumpers.

When I got the car, it had a bad idling problem. The starter motor was also in bad shape. After replacing the Idle Air Control Valve and bleeding the coolant system of any air, and still seeing the problem persist, I was told that maybe the ECU was faulty. Sure enough, I replaced the ECU and the problem went away.

Another issue I've been having lately was that the battery was not being charged. I replaced the alternato r with the help of a friend and also replaced the terminals and it seemed to improve, but I'm still having a problem when I turn the headlight s on. With the lights off, the car seems to run just fine, but once I turn the headlight s on, the car begins to struggle to stay at idle speed.

Nice hatch.

I'd say check grounds first.

Make sure belt it tight also.

I might be mistaken but it might be the eld in the fuse box under the hood if all the others are good.

Welcome to the site.

Enjoy your stay.

Nice Bmw.

Thank you.

Grounds were good, belts are tight, the fuses checked green across the board. Though I'm not too experienc ed with the notion, it came with an aftermark et stereo [requiring 15v and my battery is a 12v], and I'm hoping that is the root of my problems. I'm tracing the cable back and seeing where I can disconnec t it from the car.

Thanks.
