Hi,

I run in the Atlanta region SCCA solo 2.

http://www.soloatlanta.com/

I'm going to keep a history of my events and times in SMF.

In 2011, I took 2nd place in this class, but I'm shooting for 1st place this season.

I have a b18c5 with jrsc on 7.8psi non-intercoolrd in my 1991 si.

I also am using itr 5lug front and rear knuckles, hubs, and brakes.

Quaife equipped manual steering rack (~2.5 turns lock to lock).

I built the transmiss ion myself using ats 4.9 final drive, ats 1/3/4/5 close ratio gearset, and ats metal 1.5 way LSD.

I'm going to also make at least one post per event to keep a running record of changes, trials and tribulati ons, etc.

I'm going to run the same setup as last year:

15x8 te37's +20 effective offset front on Hoosier r6 225/45/15, 35psi
15x7 5zigen N1R Beckett +40 offset rear on Hoosier r6 205/50/15, 33psi

Apex i n1 coilovers 99spec  (11k front / 16k rear):
Front dampers at 9 clicks from full stiff (1.5 turns)
Rear dampers at full soft

Front swaybar = stock si
Rear swaybar = suspensio n technique s on full stiff

Camber* -2.5 deg front, -1.9 rear

Toe* .01 front and .16 rear

Caster* +4deg

Ride height* 4.5" to front jacking points, 5" to rear.

This is with the jimfab bars shortened as much as possible while still retaining the jamb nuts.

And I'm using the stock upper A-arms on the correct sides.

* It bears mentionin g that my track is wider (front and rear) than stock depending on my wheel and tire setup.

I missed the first three events this season, due to gremlins and getting the jrsc up and running.

Hi Richard,

Yes I got some stuff resolved.

I was getting code 26 and code 22 and it wouldn't go into VTEC.  :/

Before that, I had some faulty program that wouldn't allow it to build boost.

Ahh the joys of a modified car!  :P

I was just out driving the night before - trying to street tune in between rain showers, so I thought I could just stop by since I was just out driving around anyway.

Sunday 4/20/2014 was the first event I made it to this season.

I had some bald BFG street tires up front and old hoosier spec miata rcomps in the rear.

I think I was the third person in my class; the silver rsx-s was a two driver husband and wife team.

Since I had so many problems getting my car ready, I just drove at 60% throttle and no VTEC.
I was still able to build boost though and the car felt really good!

My times:

Run 1 - 65.137
Run 2 - 60.758
Run 3 - 58.145
Run 4 - 55.485

I talked to Dustin (super nice guy, and the owner of the rsx) and he said he was on street tires and ran a 53.xxx.

I was really happy that my car didn't blow up - it actually drove really solidly.

The only thing I noticed was a grinding / rubbing noise on hard right turns.

I'm pretty sure I can drop two seconds with new street tires and a good tune with VTEC working, so I'm excited!

The course was super fun too!

The monday after the event, I found out the cause of the rubbing noise on hard right hand turns:

I should just get stiffer urethane in my hasport mounts right?

Oh ya, and somehow fuel started dumping on the ground Monday night when I started it to drive home.
Injector #1 spontaneo usly decided the seal was worth blowing out:

Results from points 4 were posted online this week:

Dustin ran a best time of 53.558
My best time was 55.485
That's only 1.927 slower, which put me in 2nd place for the event!

Consideri ng I really need tires and a tune with working VTEC, I definitel y think that I have the potential to podium this season!

Points 5 I was the only one in my class.

I had a lousy showing anyway because my text pipe came apart at the slip fit connectio n on the first run and I had to pull in and do a quick repair on it.

I need tires bad and my alternato r pulley rubbing is a real issue.

Also, I need more of a tune - the e85 is giving me an extra margin of safety, but I want to bump the timing up and do a better VTEC tune - it's not working right.

Well I think I got first in smf for points 6.

I ran old 225 r6 on 15x8 +45 te37 fronts (which I found in my garage at the last minute), and 205 sm on 15x7 cast 5zigen beckett rears.

33psi front and 32 psi rear.

Full soft on dampers all around.

Run 1 - 47.477 +1 cone
Run 2 - 47.207
Run 3 - 46.242
Run 4 - 46.140

It was a back and forth battle for first between me and another civic, and the silver rsx who is leading in points for the season.

I think my 3rd run put me in the lead, and the 4th run sealed the deal.

That's the good news.

Bad news now:

I still hadn't fully tuned the car - only up to about 6k rpm, and no VTEC tuning.
My timing maps are retarded quite a bit under boost.
But I really need to tune the car in vtec up to about 9200-9500rpm.

I also need to hook up/ connect the water injection system.

And finally, Mike Hernandez' eg is getting faster and faster - he was on brand new 275 a6's and ran a 43 flat I think.
He ran in the pro class, otherwise he would have steamroll ed us all.

That puts me 3+ seconds off the pace.

With fresh Hoosiers and a good tune, hopefully I can make up that deficit (which is huge).

Well I think I got 1st place in smf for points 7.

Run 1 - 55.691 + a cone + in the rain.  The neon got his first run before the rain started coming down!

Run 2 - 52.345 - it was wet, but starting to dry up enough for me to get a clean run.  I power-on drifted the last 180deg turn before the finish!

Run 3 - 52.156 - in the rain again!

Run 4 - 50.016 - dried up a bit - went balls out ftw!

I dropped 2 seconds on my last run!

http://atlantascca.com/events/solo/results/

I was behind by over 2 seconds after run 3, but then on my 4th run I got a 50.016, which won by .259 seconds over David in the neon R/T.

Bad news though: Randall Rutledge ran a 47.240 in the Hernandez smf Pro eg.

That means I need to find another 2.776 seconds in my car!

So I still have a long way to go.

This is the exact same setup as last event - no changes other than a little more street tuning.

VTEC is either not working or just not audible.

I'll post more up later.
