My 2015 Autox thread (SCCA Solo 2, Atlanta region, SMF)
« on: March 17, 2015, 12:47:24 pm »
Hi guys.

I'm planning to autox again this year with hopefully a few more upgrades.

I'll list the car and mods in this space, but first here's the schedule:

February 28st Solo Test and Tune Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA)
March 1st Solo Points 1 Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA)
March 29th Solo Points 2 Turner Field (Atlanta, GA)
April 19th Solo Points 3 Turner Field (Atlanta, GA)
May 17th Solo Points 4 Turner Field (Atlanta, GA)
June 21st Solo Points 5 Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA)
July 11th Solo Points 6 Turner Field (Atlanta, GA)
July 12th Solo Points 7 Turner Field (Atlanta, GA)
August 23rd Solo Points 8 Atlanta Motorspee dway (Hampton, GA)
August 30th Solo Points 9 Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA)
October 10th Solo Points 10 Atlanta Motorspee dway (Atlanta, GA)
October 11th Solo Champion of Champions Atlanta Motorspee dway (Atlanta, GA)

I missed the test and tune and also the first points event because the car isn't ready and I didn't want to make the drive to commerce.

I only have to attend 7 of the 10 points events to be in the running for the season trophy for this class.
Obviously I need to be consisten t and do well to hopefully be in a trophy position for the season.

Black is closest to being done.

Eventuall y I'd like to switch to the grey one, but that will depend on rule changes.

I sometimes sub the grey car in when the black one is down for upgrades / repairs.

Will this require a shell swapping even kind of thing?

If you go from black to grey?

my new house driveway is plenty big for two cars side by side.

Initially I wanted to shell swap.

But I'm thinking long term I may just part out the black car and do a kswap - either 2L boosted or 2.4L allmotor.

^ well that is long term.

Short term, I'm undecided what to do - just keep running the black car and see how it plays out against the big boys.

Nope, tomorrow for me.

I think there was a school or practice today, but the points event is tomorrow.

So I'm somehow in the points running.

I have only run points 2, 5, 6, and 7.

And a minimum of 7 events must be run in order to accumulat e points for the season.

I've been running the grey car with a b18a1 swap and open diff this whole season.

Tomorrow is points event #8.

I can't miss any more events, or I won't meet the minimum # of points for the season.

And if I do well, I'll have a chance at 1st place.

My old kumho victorace r tires were sucking, so I picked up some BFG rivals in 225/45/15 front and toyo R1R's in 195/50/15 for the rear.

I bought some TRM 15x9 et+36 for the front of the grey car and RAVS 15x8 et +25 for the rear.

At the last minute I decided not to use those wheels, and instead mounted the tires on my OZ racing 15x6.5 et +38.

I just didn't have time to mess with cutting up a set of fenders this weekend.

Well the event yesterday was a wet one!

SMF ran in the first run group of the morning session, and it was pouring down rain.

We even had a rain delay in starting, due to lightning .

I think I managed to squeak out first place - the new tires are fantastic for a street tire.

Rivals are sick grippy and I highly recommend them!

My times:

Run 1:  71.064
Run 2:  65.340
Run 3:  64.121
Run 4:  63.010

I'm pretty sure all my runs were clean.

And it's pretty fun to Autox in the rain.

The grey car has been pretty solid all season (*knock on wood*) and with any luck, I'll run it in the last two events this year and hopefully place!

Well this past Sunday was another wet event - points 9 at Atlanta Dragway in commerce.

I ended up soaked again!

I also ran some bad times:

Run 1 - 51.034
Run 2 - 49.890 dnf
Run 3 - 51.467 dnf
Run 4 - 49.942

Luckily I was the only entrant in SMF, so I still got first place.

There's only one more points event left, and then the Champion of Champions event.

The car ran pretty well at the event, and I drove it to work the next day.

That afternoon when I started driving home, it was running very poorly - down on power and sounding like a Subaru.

I got it home and started trying to figure out wtf was wrong.

I noticed that cyl#4 wasn't firing at all.

I decided to replace the msd plug wires new ngk plug wires the next day.

That fixed it!

Man I've been chasing an intermitt ent stumble and low idle for so long!

The low idle issue is still there, but I figure a good cleaning of the iacv should help with that.
